Why share your story?

Celebrate yourself

Sharing your story allows you to think about your journey and celebrate your progress, your strength and your decision to prioritise your health

Increase awareness

Many people get sick with TB but don’t get tested, which means they don’t receive the treatment they need to recover. By sharing your story you can increase awareness about TB symptoms, the importance of testing, and how TB is curable.

Encourage positive attitudes

By sharing your story you can show how TB affects so many people in South Africa and how so many people are getting tested and starting treatment.

Encourage Action

People watching may see their own story in yours and feel inspired! Whether it’s getting tested, starting treatment, or supporting someone with TB — your story can make a difference and save lives.

Increase Awareness

  • Over 300,000 people will get sick with TB in South Africa this year. What does this mean? Almost half won’t know they have TB. Sharing your story can help others about the disease, its symptoms, and treatment options.
  • By sharing your journey, you can emphasise the importance of recognising TB symptoms and seeking timely medical care.

Break Stigma

  • TB carries a sense of shame and embarrassment that can prevent people from seeking help. Your story can help break this stigma and create a more supportive environment for those affected.
  • Personal stories can normalize discussing symptoms and encourage proactive health measures

Encourage Action

  • Sharing your story can inspire others to take action, whether it’s getting tested, seeking treatment, or supporting someone with TB.
  • Highlight the importance of respectful and dignified treatment for all TB patients.

We all have a story, and yours is important! By sharing your TB story, you can encourage people to seek help and inspire supportive attitudes. Together, we can create a healthier South Africa.
